Each type of make-up and brand has different ingredients, but you should still be wary. According to the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, There are “major loopholes in U.S. federal law allow the $50 billion cosmetics industry to put unlimited amounts of chemicals into personal care products with no required testing, no monitoring of health effects and inadequate labeling requirements.”
With that said, there are alternative green make-up to try instead. You just have to know where to find them.
1. Burts Bees: Many people know about the lip balm, but don’t know about Burts Bees’ range of other lip and facial products. The company’s mission is to “create and educate people on truly natural products that have a positive effect on both you and the world you live.”
2. Sephora’s natural beauty: According to Sephora’s website, these products have “high concentrations of plant-based and naturally-derived ingredients, and fewer to no parabens, sodium lauryl sulfate, phthalates, petrochemicals, and synthetic fragrances or dyes.”
3. L’Oreal Bare Naturale: This product comes recommended by the cancer foundation and is 100 percent preservative free. L’Oreal also markets this particular foundation as “skin improving” and it includes SPF 19, which is great for the summer time.
4. Kaia house: If your shopping online, this is a great place to order your green make-up from. Powders run about $18 and nail polishes about $8. This site also has a wide range of products for your hair, face and body, so you can go green all the way!
5. Organic Wear: This brand says it sells 100 percent natural organic makeup and is the first Escort Certified line of makeup. According to its website, “ECOCERT® is an internationally recognized organic certification that guarantees the genuine practice of environmental respect throughout the formulation and manufacturing of the product.” according to its website.
While these are five good options, there are many more out there. Just be careful and check the ingrediant labeles because according to the Campaign? for safe cosmetics says “there are no legal standards for organic or natural personal care products sold in the United States.” Sephora also points out on its Natural Beauty site that the term “natural is not regulated by the FDA.” This means some products may just say they are “green” or organic, But may actually just be a marketing ploy.
