The art of manicuring has come a long way but now the real glitz and glamour is at your fingertips with the latest nail frenzy, Minx nails. This southern California nail technique is a heat applied film that is placed over the nail like a sticker. Salons all over the country are picking up this new fashion nail trend which is waterproof and can last up to two weeks. Prices range from $45 to around $80.
Minx comes in many designs and is the perfect new summer trend, adding a little spice to your everyday ensemble.
Minx nails differ from sticker nails because of the material and the adhesives. Rather than looking cheap they are more appealing (although more costly). The price of Minx however is too steep for certain women. They love the many designs but will not commit to paying around $60 every week for Minx. “It’s a special event nail if you’re not the rich and famous,” Kiara Tucker, a student of Clark Atlanta University said.
For the same reasons many women have cut out manicures because of prices. However another issue with manicures is damage to the real nail. Acrylic nails leave the real nail weak and with a continuous chipping for days. Minx Nails does not damage the real nail and it’s the green alternative to nail polish and nail polish remover. The process of applying Minx takes around 20 minutes which is shorter than a full-set of acrylic nails, although Summer Jarvis, a professional Minxer in Atlanta says it can take longer depending on the shape of the nail. The most worn nail is the chrome Minx.
It’s a flashy metallic finish that cannot quite be achieved by nail polish. It attracts the eye just with even the slightest movement of the hands. Whitley Smith, a student in Atlanta, tried Minx three times and said she likes the gold metallic. “It makes me feel almost royal and it brings out my gold jewelry,” Smith said. Patterns on Minx nails are also popular. Women get clothing designs, celebrity faces, animal print, etc. There are over 100 different patterns to choose from.
Many Minx salons offer Minx parties at discounted rates. Birthday parties, baby showers, bridal showers, prom are all welcome. In these parties, be daring as possible because it is an edgy nail. Try a different design on each finger, mix and match but just have fun. Acrylic, Gel, Silk-wraps or Solar nails were once the buzz in nail salons but Minx may have a chance of hogging the spotlight. Celebrities such as Beyonce, Keri Hilson and Lady Gaga can be seen strutting Minx nails in videos, red carpet
events or even on the streets in their every day lives.
