Humble Vanity
We all know that summer is the most popular season for weddings. We have those extra long beautiful sunny days and the calmer evening and night temperatures. In my opinion I believe that a bride’s makeup look is just as important as her gown, especially in the summer season. Yet, most brides spend months searching for the perfect dress and 5 minutes on their makeup decision. Here are some tips for you summer brides out there (and the guest should take note too!).
Unfortunately during the summer season your normal makeup regimen may not be the most suitable and/or comfortable considering you are transitioning from air-conditioning rooms to the humid outdoor temperatures. So before you decide what makeup you will be wearing, be sure to have some products that can stand up against the humidity and not have your face melt away!
Your makeup should look radiant and fresh, like you have a natural glow to you. A face made up too much doesn’t look right on a summer afternoon in the garden or on the beach. When putting on your make up, make sure you don’t apply too much. It’s your wedding day; you should still look like you. You don’t want to alter your look too much because people may not recognize you! Your face should have a lighter touch that is less likely to melt in the high temperatures and make a muddle of your face. Of course every female wants to wear a little makeup to enhance her features and mask her flaws; but the key is to choose the right products.
Preparing the face is the most important step. All skin types should use a primer before their foundation. This allows your makeup to have a perfect surface to work with and gives your foundation better and longer coverage throughout the day. If you are prone to looking shiny or oily, start with an oil absorbing gel and
apply it all over your face. Also, if you plan to wear eye shadow, an eyelid primer will help to prevent your makeup from creasing or disappearing.
When it comes to foundation for a summer wedding, less is more. Even if you use a fairly heavy formula during the winter, for the summer months it is important to lighten up. Often a tinted moisturizer is the ideal coverage for a hot day. If your skin is oily apply an oil-free foundation. If you decide to use a liquid foundation, after you’ve applied it, place some loose powder with a brush to set it. Apply concealer to any trouble spots. Use it under the eyes, around corners of your nose, and wherever you have blemishes. Allow the rest of your face to have more of an everyday and graceful appearance.
Make sure to define your eyes really well at your lash line to help them stand out. Get the most from your mascara to get great definition or opt to applying some false lashes. Do not put anything harsh or too dark on your eyes. Remember to keep it natural. If you are applying eyeliner, make sure it’s soft and subtle.
Finish your wedding day makeup with a cream blush for a natural flush. Your lips should be soft and natural. Choose a lipstick in a pretty and soft color; give it staying power by lining your lip with a neutral lip pencil before applying the color.
Remember brides, you will be taking a hundred pictures that will be with you for an eternity, it’s important to have your best face on your big day! With these tips in mind, you will look like a fresh and radiant bride for your entire wedding day. Congratulations and good luck!
