With the over saturation of talented R&B/Soul singers, Melanie Fiona, a Guyanese Canadian singer/songwriter from the inner cities of Toronto steps into the ring igniting fire on her opponents. Her lead single “Give It To Me Right” from her debut album, The Bridge, brings a Nuevo spin to The Zombies classic, Time of the Season sample and illustrates a sexy bluntness of wanting things on her own terms.
Scheduling to release her album this summer via SRC/Universal Motown Records, Melanie Fiona, has been touring all over America and overseas and just finished touring with Kanye West. “The album is called The Bridge,” enthuses Fiona. “It crosses the barriers between ethnicities, genres, age groups, and genders. It can’t be defined as just one thing. It’s got a soul that’s something old, yet something new.”
Besides her parents and west Indian background being a heavy influence on musical direction, Melanie also notes that Sade, Bob Marley, and Patsy Cline are footsteps she hopes to walk in. On her new album Fiona has collaborated with songwriter, Andrea Martin, who’s worked with everyone from En Vouge, Monica, and Leona Lewis. “When I met Andrea, it was an instant connection,” she explains. “We developed this very personal working relationship where we were both inspired by each other.” Sharing each other’s life experiences, they collaborated on some of the defining songs in the collection.
Producers on her debut album include UK producers Future Cut, Vada Nobles, NYC’s J. Phoenix, Peter Wade, Salaam Remi, Andrew Wyatt, Rob Fusari, and Angela Hunte, Jnay Sewell. Between touring all over the world nonstop and working with some of the most talented writers and producers in the musical game, Melanie Fiona is poised, ready, and humbly determined to take control of the industry and her audience. “This experience will never happen for me again,” she muses. “I’ll never be a new artist again. I’ll never be a complete and utter student of the game.”
Well give it to us, Mel! We are waiting..
