CW‘s The Game hour long season finale is set to premiere this Friday, May 15th. Despite being critically acclaimed, and having support from its viewers, the show and its creator, Mara Brock Akil, is currently fighting an uphill battle with its network to try to keep it on the air for the 2009-2010 season.

As if there were now some shortage of drama on the show, which more than most sitcoms wrings humor from uncomfortable situations. “The Game” is a modest treasure: a sitcom that doesn’t patronize, is equally concerned with men and women, and doesn’t lean on traditional structures of family or friendship. It’s current and clever, aggressively fashionable, and getting more mature each year without sacrificing its airy allure. What’s more, it’s the only portrayal on network television of the black overclass, a saner version of “The Real Housewives of Atlanta.”

The Game‘s creator, Akil has pitched to the CW‘s executives to extend the show from it’s current 30 minute format to an hour long dramedy to fit more with CW’s current format of programming. The cast and crew of The Game rallied support from its 2 million plus viewers via the “Change the Game” campaign this past month which was headed by, music video director Matthew Cherry and crew member of the set. Tune in this Friday at 8:00pm to see the season finale and to see loose ends tied from the 3rd season. Let’s cross our fingers and hope that it is renewed for a 4thseason  in the Fall!
