ur·bane Pronunciation[ur-beyn] Pronunciation Key –adjective 1. Having the polish and suavity regarded ,as characteristic of sophisticated social life in major cities: an urbane manner. 2. Reflecting elegance, sophistication, etc., esp. in expression 3.Polite, refined, and often elegant in manner.

As I sit here listening to my www.pandora.com station, I reflect on the long and winding road that has led me to this current stop on the way to my final destination (wherever that may be!). I never really intended to start an online publication it sort of just happened. What started out as a marketing brainstorming session between myself and a couple of my friends, has morphed into an entity of its own. [Sidenote: Thanks Darin McFadden and Conrad Davenport!]

I was blessed to be raised in a setting where I interacted with people of many different nationalities and cultural backgrounds, which included two of my pre-teen best friends being of Mexican and Filipino descent (one with whom I am still close to today and whose twin daughters call me, tia!). I was blessed with parents, especially my mother, who taught me to be proud of my African American heritage, divulge more into my history, but also be accepting and understanding of people belonging to another race.

I started this blog style magazine, to educate, to celebrate our differences, to motivate us to strive forward, to uplift our spirits, and to unify our cultural boundaries. I’m not trying to save the world or be THE solution to world peace, but I am trying to be your friend in your head. I love being a woman even though it comes with a couple of drawbacks, and I love being a woman of color and all that comes with it (okay I can deal without the negative stereotypes). I wanted this blog magazine to be a reflection of what I want out of life (hence the word URBANE) which includes exploring entrepreneurship, traveling, partying, divulging into everything fashionable and beautiful, but most importantly stepping into my higher spiritual self.

Please browse through the various sections of the magazine which are still developing! Check out Four Ways To Get Fabulous Plus Size Fashion Looks in Humble Vanity which is not just for our voluptuous sisters , read A Lady and Her Business in our Executive Portfolio to find out how to start your own company, and to bring awareness to a hidden dilemma, child sexual abuse, please read The Rape of Innocents in the Circa Newsroom section.

I want to give a HUGE THANK YOU to Miss Vicky Ayala. Without her you wouldn’t be seeing this site today.  Also once again Darin McFadden for creating this beautiful logo!

Thank you for taking the first steps into this wonderful journey with me. Without you, this magazine would be nothing. It’s not my magazine, it’s not my contributors magazine, it’s YOUR magazine.

With love in sisterhood!
